A High-Deductible Health
Plan (HDHP) is a type of health plan that:
- Allows
companies and individuals to save 15-50% on annual premiums
versus
a typical PPO plan
- Is
similar to a PPO plan where once an individual/family
reaches its annual payment thresholds, full insurance
coverage takes over
- Can have “first dollar” coverage
for preventive care
- Must have a minimum annual deductible
of at least $1,000 (self-only) or $2,000 (family)
- Has an
annual out-of-pocket maximum ceiling of no more than $5,000
(self-only) or $10,000 (family) – however, the typical
HDHP out-of-pocket maximum is less than the federal ceiling
